Wanderlei Silva Inducted Into UFC Hall of Fame… “Pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts”

Wanderlei Silva (47, Brazil), who is familiar to domestic martial arts fans as he played for the Japanese mixed martial arts group Pride FC in the early and mid-2000s,

will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

UFC announced on the 20th (Korean time) that Silva will be inducted into the Pioneer Category Hall of Fame

and that an induction ceremony will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA this summer.

The Hall of Fame in the pioneer category includes players who made their professional debut before November 17, 2000,

UFC President Dana White said, “Silva is a true mixed martial arts pioneer and has left his mark on the history of combat sports through memorable fights.

He has helped expand the martial arts fan base around the world.”

Silva, who debuted on the mixed martial arts stage in 1996 with the Brazilian fighting group Valitudo, moved to the UFC in 1998.

After leaving the UFC, he became a popular athlete with Japan’s Pride FC,

where he rose to fame as the middleweight champion.

Although he did not become champion in the UFC,

he received a lot of love thanks to his spectacular fighting style based on Muay Thai.

Silva, who retired in September 2018, has a career record of 35 wins (27 KOs), 14 losses, 1 draw, and 1 invalidation.
