The suspension means Lars will not be able to play in the K League for a total of 13 games until the opening two rounds of next year’s season,
along with the remaining games of this season (2).
At the time, Lars’ blood alcohol content was measured at 7.0% or higher, which is the level of license revocation.
Lars, who started his K-League debut in 08 when he joined Jeonbuk Hyundai
moved to Suwon FC that year and has been a key striker for the team.
He seemed to be on an upward trajectory after scoring in the K League 2020 Round 5 match against Suwon Samsung on Dec.
1 and became the fourth highest scorer with his ninth goal of the season, but he was caught driving under the influence and was effectively unable to play in the K League anymore.
However, Suwon FC is not going to terminate Lars’ contract right away.
This is because if you terminate your contract,
you will immediately become a free agent (FA) and can transfer to an overseas team without paying a transfer fee.
Kunimoto
who previously played for Jeonbuk Hyundai, and Jonatan of FC Anyang continued their careers by playing in the Portuguese league and the Indian league, respectively
after their contracts with the club were terminated after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
As a result, Suwon FC reportedly decided to terminate Lars’ contract immediately
instead of transferring him to another overseas team for a transfer fee even if he could not play.
