Yang Ji is more proud of her younger siblings’ performance
“Thanks to the pitchers, Kim Ki-yeon is doing so well, I need to DH more.”
Yang Ji-hyun talks about his game-winning hit.
The Doosan Bears won the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against the LG Twins on May 3 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea.
Doosan won 6-4 in the fourth Jamsil rivalry game of the season. With the win, Doosan snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-1 against LG this season.
Yang, batting in the No. 4 spot, went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk on the day. His lone hit was a game-winning two-run single in the top of the third inning in the rain.
“Today, (starter) Kim Yoo-seong, the rest of the pitchers, and (catcher) Kim Ki-yeon did a great job, so we were able to get a really valuable win,” said Yang, who credited her siblings for the victory.
Yang, who started at catcher in all three games of the midweek series, entrusted Kim Ki-yeon with the job today. It was a gesture by manager Lee Seung-yeop to ensure his fitness. “She’s doing a great job,” Yang said of Kim Ki-yeon, who is easing his burden as the backup catcher. I have nothing but praise for him. He has a good bat and a good lead. I think the percentage of me going out as the designated hitter will increase because she’s so good,” he laughed. It was a laugh filled with the pride of a senior looking up to his junior.
“In my first at-bat, I was late to the fastball, so in my second at-bat, I only saw one fastball and turned it around. “I think it was a lucky hit,” he said, “but I think we won because the pitchers did a good job of blocking it. “We talked a lot about being bold with the pitchers in preparation for today’s game,” Yang said, adding, “The pitchers threw fewer strikes 스포츠토토 than usual and the defense was more focused, so we didn’t give up a lot of runs. That was an impressive part of the game.”
Kim Yoo-sung pitched three innings of one-run ball. Although he didn’t go the distance as his pitch count increased, he was able to close out the third inning and set the stage for the win. “I think I was more consistent today than in the last game,” Yang said. I didn’t have many pitches out of the strike zone and I stayed in the zone. I know I can throw my pitches well. I feel like I’m more comfortable with the hitters,” he praised.
Even with a batting average of more than 30 percent, Yang said his “timing is still up and down.” He doesn’t hit the long ball well. “When you go from a short pitch to a big pitch, your balance changes, and it takes a lot of energy to think about hitting it far,” Yang said. “I’m also looking for a hitting point, but I can’t find it. I keep making corrections, but I feel like I’m getting older. I’m trying to get more hits,” he laughed.
