Boston hit by lightning, ’50 billion won free agent’ Giolito is in danger of being out for the season

The Boston Red Sox, a prestigious American professional baseball team in the Major League Baseball (MLB), encountered great negative news ahead of the opening of the season.
ESPN reported on the 6th (Korean time) that Lucas Giolito (29), whom Boston designated as the starting pitcher for the opening game, is in danger of being out for the season due to injury.
Giolito is a free agent (FA) signed by Boston last winter for $38.5 million (about 50 billion won) over two years.
However, Giolito’s recent examination revealed that his right elbow ligaments were partially damaged and even sprained.
If he undergoes elbow surgery, it is difficult to expect him to pitch normally this year or even next year, which is the final year of his contract, so Boston could lose his entire free agent salary.
Giolito, who made his major league debut with the Washington Nationals in 2016, moved to the Chicago White Sox in 2017 and played as an ace.
His overall record in eight major league seasons is 61 wins, 62 losses, and an average ERA of 4.43.
Last year, he fell into a slump and was traded to the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Guardians.
Last winter, Boston traded ace Chris Sale, who was prone to injuries, to the Atlanta Braves and recruited Giolito, who has the advantage of consistency, but an unexpected elbow injury is expected to cause a major setback in the season. 사설토토
