France on the 10th (Korean time).

Liverpool, who had won all three matches in the previous group stage

would have secured advancement to the round of 16 regardless of the results of the remaining two games if they had earned three points on this day

but were unable to do so.

They also lost their first match against Toulouse and it was the first time this season that they gave up 3 goals.

As if considering the Premier League match two days later, manager Jurgen Klopp went on a rotation trip to Toulouse.

He introduced Cody Gakpo as the front-line striker and placed 17-year-old striker Ben Doak in the second line to replace Mohamed Salah.

In addition, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominic Szoboszlai, and goalkeeper Alisson Becker were also placed on the bench.

Liverpool gave up the first goal in the 36th minute of the first half.

Left defender Kostantinos Tsimikas lost the ball in the defensive zone and conceded a goal to Toulouse Aaron Doenum.

The first half ended with the home team Toulouse leading 1-0.

In the 13th minute of the second half, Toulouse scored their second goal. This time the Liverpool defense collapsed.

The defense was confused and could not block the cross that came from the right side, and Tis Darlinga

who caught the ball, finished with a right-footed shot.

Liverpool chased after Christian Caceres Jr.’s own goal in the 29th minute of the second half.

However, Toulouse poured cold water on Liverpool’s pursuit.

The defense did not properly handle a cross from the left flank

and Toulouse’s Franck Magri rushed at the opposite post and kicked it into the goal

widening the lead to two goals again.

Liverpool narrowed the gap to one goal again in the 44th minute of the second half when substitute Diogo Jota beat three defenders and scored.

Then, in added time in the second half, 20-year-old defender Jarrell Amorin Quanza hit the Toulouse net.

It seemed like the game would end in a dramatic tie, but it didn’t.

During the development process, VAR ruled that Alexis Mac Alester had committed a handball, and the score was canceled, ending the game.

After the game, Coach Klopp said at a press conference, “I watched the video and it doesn’t seem to be a handball,” and claimed that the decision was wrong, saying, “The ball hit the chest first and it was quite a while before the goal was scored.”

Liverpool lost a game that day, but even if they win just one of the two remaining games

they will advance to the round of 16 on their own.

On the 1st of next month, they will bring Austria LASK home to play the fifth match of the group stage.

Toulouse accumulated 3 points against Liverpool and maintained second place with 7 points, 3 points ahead of Saint-Gillelois (Belgium).
