“Son Heung-min to be Tottenham’s next captain if Kane leaves” and he also praises leadership
South Korean captain Son Heung-min, 31, is likely to become the next captain of English Premier League (EPL) side Tottenham Hotspur, according to local reports.
“Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has Son Heung-min in mind as a potential captain,” Spurs Web, which covers Tottenham news, reported on Sunday.
“Postecoglou praised Son for his qualities as a player and his leadership,” the outlet said, adding that “if current captain Harry Kane leaves (for Bayern Munich), Son will have more responsibility in the future.”
Tottenham had goalkeeper Hugo Lloris wearing the captain’s armband until last season, but he is now effectively out of favor with the team. He is looking for a move elsewhere.
Kane was newly named captain ahead of the season, but he continues to be linked with a move to Bayern Munich. Kane, who has one year left on his Tottenham contract, has refused to sign a new deal with his original club, leading to speculation of a move to Germany.
“If Joris and Kane leave the club this summer, Son is certainly one of the candidates for the captaincy,” Spurs Web predicted.
Most importantly, the new coach has a lot of confidence in Son. “He’s known him for a long time, and he’s a very good player,” the media outlet said, citing a recent interview with the coach.
“He’s a player with real leadership qualities,” Postecoglou told the British outlet, “He fits in well wherever he goes and has a lot of respect from his teammates.”
“Postecoglou’s reference to Son’s leadership and influence in the locker room probably confirms that Kane will hand him the captain’s armband if he leaves this summer,” Spurs Web explained.
Meanwhile, after an Asian tour of Australia, 고스톱 Thailand and Singapore, Son and Tottenham will return to London to prepare for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Tottenham will host Brentford in the first round of the 2023-24 EPL on March 13.
