‘There are a lot of good defenders out there…’ Kerr to start Booker, why?
“Booker is a player who can play a lot of roles”
The United States will take on Brazil in the men’s basketball quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Sunday at Pierre Moreau Stadium in Lille, France.
The United States is the world’s leading basketball powerhouse. They have won four straight Olympic titles. However, they have struggled at the Basketball World Cup. In the last two World Cups, they”ve performed below expectations. They didn”t win the 2019 and 토토 2023 Basketball World Cups.
That’s why the USA’s star players have focused on the Paris Olympics. LeBron James (Lakers), Steph Curry (Golden State), and Kevin Durant (Phoenix) are at the center of the action. They are joined by Anthony Davis (Lakers), Jrue Holiday (Boston), Jayson Tatum (Boston), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), Devin Booker (Phoenix), Tyrese Halliburton (Indiana), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota), Derrick White (Boston), and Bam Adebayo (Miami).
The performance of the Dream Team was tremendous. Durant and LeBron showed that they’re still going strong. Add to that the energy levels of Edwards, White, and Halliday. As a result, the team easily beat Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico to advance.
There were problems. With so much talent, some players didn’t get much playing time. Nevertheless, Kerr kept Curry and Booker in the starting lineup. Both of them are good offensive players. Despite the problems on defense, Kerr trusted them.
In a recent interview with Cronkite News, Kerr explained why. “Booker is probably the most versatile player in the NBA. He’s a potent scorer in the league. But he also has a lot of commitment without the ball. He can move, shoot, and be a linker without the ball. Then, when he has the ball, he scores. He can fit into any combination. That’s why he’s been the starter so far.”
Meanwhile, Team USA has won all three of its pool games. Halliday and White have been standouts on defense, but Kerr has opted to go with Booker as a starter to boost the offense. It will be interesting to see how Kerr’s choice pans out in the quarterfinals and the rest of the tournament.
