Bayern Munich legend criticizes failure to sign backup defender Kim Min-jae

Bayern Munich legend Hamann has criticized the club’s management for considering a move for Boateng.

Speaking to Sky Sports in Germany on Monday (Aug. 8), Hamann shared his thoughts on the club’s attempts to sign Boateng. “There were fan protests planned in relation to Bayern Munich’s signing of Boateng. That’s the only reason why Bayern Munich didn’t sign Boateng,” he said. “Bayern Munich should have realized the impact the signing of Boateng was causing among their fans.”

“When Bayern Munich announced the withdrawal of Boateng, they said that Kimmichael, Upamecano and De Ligt were fit again,” Hamann said, adding, “The fans have the right to know the truth. Bayern Munich tried to make fools of the public.”

Bayern Munich have been suffering from a center back shortage this season. De Ligt has been focusing on his rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury in last month’s match against Bochum. The Bavarians were without Kim, Upamecano, and De Ligt for the first leg of the 2023-24 DFB-Pokal against Munster last month due to various injuries, leaving midfielder Goretzka and flanker Mazurawi to play at center back. Bayern Munich pursued a short-term deal for Boateng after he joined the team in training, but withdrew the offer due to criticism.

Boateng left Bayern Munich in 2021 and is currently without a club. Boateng won nine Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League titles with Bayern Munich, including a triple treble. However, he is currently on trial for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Babel, a former Bayern Munich defender who won three Bundesliga titles with the club in the 1990s, criticized the Bavarians’ player acquisition 토토 policy on Thursday in German outlet Sport. “Boateng’s possible return is proof that Bayern Munich’s policy has failed,” Babel wrote.

German outlet Allgemeine Zeitung also commented on the failure to sign Boateng, stating that “Bayern Munich’s rules state that they are against all forms of violence.

Bayern Munich’s controversial signing of Boateng ultimately fell through. With De Ligt still injured, the Bavarians have no center back options other than the center back combination of Kim Min-Jae and Upamecano.
