Samsung blocks KT from winning 5 games in a row

The Samsung Lions snapped the KT Wiz’s five-game winning streak.

Samsung won 5-2 against KT in the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Wednesday.

Last-place Samsung, which avenged a loss the day before, improved to 32-50 on the season.

KT (38-2, 42-42) saw its bid for a fifth straight win fall short.

After Samsung starter Won Tae-in gave up two runs on six hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, Kim Tae-hoon (⅔ innings), Choi Ji-kwang (one inning) and Oh Seung-hwan (one inning) combined for a scoreless inning to share the win.

Kim Tae-hoon picked up the win, while Oh Seung-hwan earned his 11th save of the season.

KT’s Uhm Sang-baek pitched well, giving up two runs on five hits (one home run) in 6⅔ innings with two walks and four strikeouts, but was left with a difficult save situation. The second pitcher, Son Dong-hyun, took the loss with two runs in ⅓ of an inning.

Samsung opened the scoring in the second inning with a leadoff single to left field by Kang Min-ho. Kang took advantage of a first-pitch fastball from Uhm Sang-baek for his 12th arching shot of the season. With his 315th career home run, Kang became the KBO’s all-time leader in home runs by a catcher, surpassing LG Twins battery coach Park Kyung-wan (314).

However, while Samsung was unable to capitalize, KT came back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

After Kang Baek-ho led off with a walk and moved to second on a stolen base, Cho Jae-dae lined a single to right. After a wild pitch put runners on first and second, Kim Min-hyuk followed with an RBI single to left.

Down 1-2, Samsung came back with a three-run seventh inning.

Two batters later, Kim Dong-jin led off with a double to right-center field. Lee Jae-hyun followed with a walk to reliever Park Young-hyun. With runners on second and third after Park’s wild pitch, Kim Hyun-jun hit an infield single to shortstop to bring in Kim Dong-jin from third. Back-to-back RBI singles by Kim Ji-chan and Koo Ja-rook made the score 4-2.

Samsung added one more run in the bottom of the eighth when Jose Pirela doubled down the left field line and Ryu Ji-hyuk drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt to center field.

Samsung sent Oh Seung-hwan to the mound in the top of the ninth with a 5-2 lead. Oh gave up a walk and a single to Kim Min-hyuk to left-center field, but induced a grounder to Kim Sang-soo to end the game. 바카라사이트
